Yokohama offers a range of activities and attractions that are enjoyable for both children and adults. From solo travellers to families there is something to see and do in this great city. Being Japan’s 2nd largest city, Yokohama boasts a unique food culture and an array of tourist, shopping, sport and recreational destinations. There is a wealth of activities for everyone to enjoy without the big crowds of tourists in your way (unlike its bigger sibling, Tokyo). Let’s explore the top things to do in Yokohama and make the most of your visit!
General Attractions
- Minato Mirai 21: Beautiful views, waterfront location, lots of attractions and activities throughout the year, classy shopping malls and much more. The area has become a symbol of Yokohama, and is a popular spot for locals, Tokyoites and foreigners. Some of the best fireworks anywhere on the planet are held here.


- Yokohama Cosmo World: An amusement park in Minato Mirai 21, featuring rides like the giant Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel. Lots of fun things to do for the young and the young at heart!


- Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise: A marine-themed park and aquarium with diverse marine life, shows, and rides. No, Hakkeijima is not just for kids – I personal love visiting here!
- Yokohama Air Cabin (Ropeway): Offers thrilling aerial views of the city. Easily accessible to many other of Yokohama’s main attractions. A little bit pricey in my opinion, but worth the cost. You can always buy a one way ticket so you can explore more on foot.



- Yokohama Sea Bass: Hop aboard the Yokohama Sea Bass, a popular water bus that offers a unique and enjoyable way to explore the city’s waterfront. Glide along the bay, passing by iconic landmarks and enjoying picturesque views of Yokohama. With indoor and outdoor seating, the Sea Bass provides a comfortable and scenic ride for the whole family. It’s a fun and convenient way to travel between various attractions and experience Yokohama’s maritime charm. The Yokohama Sea Bass is a must-try adventure for families or single travellers visiting the city. For much better views of Yokohama make sure to sit on the right hand side at the back of the ferry (when the weather allows) when boarding at Yokohama Bay Quarter. The first service starts at 10:10am and the last leaves at 6:40pm seven days a week.


- Nogeyama Zoo: Nogeyama Zoo is a small and somewhat outdated, but charming zoo, that is free to visit, located near Yokohama’s city centre. It houses a variety of animals, including lions, monkeys, and penguins. The zoo also has a petting zoo area where children can interact with small animals. Different activities are provided throughout the year. Nogeyama Park, surrounding the zoo, provides a pleasant green space for picnics and relaxation.
- Yokohama Ramen Museum: Museum dedicated to the quintessential Japanese dish, ramen. The museum has a number of exhibits on the history of ramen, as well as a number of restaurants where you can try different types of ramen.
- Anpanman Museum: Based on the popular children’s anime, with interactive exhibits and play areas. Visitors of all ages are welcome here, as long as you are an Anpanman fan!
- Yokohama City Air Terminal (YCAT): While not an attraction in the traditional sense, YCAT is a convenient transportation hub that provides easy access to Yokohama. It houses various shops, restaurants, and a rooftop garden. Families can enjoy a meal or a snack, and kids can run around and play in the open-air space before or after their Yokohama adventures.
- Yokohama Bay Bridge Sky Walk: You can see the entire Yokohama from the bridge, and as far as Mt Fuji and Shinjuky Skyline on clear days. Best at sunset. No entrance fees. But open only on weekends and public holidays. A great place to view cruise ships too.

- Yamashita Park: Situated along Yokohama’s waterfront, Yamashita Park is a picturesque green space that offers stunning views of the bay and the iconic Yokohama Bay Bridge. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing walk, picnic, or even a romantic stroll. The park is adorned with beautiful flowers, sculptures, and historical landmarks, including the Hikawa Maru, a preserved ocean liner turned museum.
- Yokohama Chinatown: As one of the largest Chinatowns in the world, and the largest Chinatown in Japan, Yokohama Chinatown is a vibrant and bustling area. It’s known for its colourful streets, traditional Chinese architecture, and a wide array of shops, restaurants, and street food stalls. You can savour delicious Chinese cuisine, explore the numerous temples and shrines, and experience the lively atmosphere of this cultural enclave.

- Yokohama Landmark Tower: The Yokohama Landmark Tower is not only an architectural marvel in my eyes, but also a bustling hub of activity, offering stunning views, shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Whether you’re interested in admiring the cityscape, shopping, or experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of Yokohama, a visit to the Yokohama Landmark Tower is a must. The observation deck is open to the public, and it’s a great place to take in the sights. And yes, you can see the majestic Mt Fuji on clear days.

- Nissan Global Headquarters Gallery: If you are into cars, this is the place to go! And its free. Explore the Nissan Global Headquarters Gallery to learn about the history and innovations of Nissan cars through exhibits and displays. From heritage to the latest models (hello GT-R), this is the perfect place for any auto sports lovers to visit, especially on a rainy or a humid day.
- Yokohama Cup Noodles Museum: Unleash your creativity at the Cup Noodles Museum, where you can learn about the history of instant noodles and even make your own personalised cup of noodles.
- Yokohama Doll Museum: This museum is home to a collection of over 10,000 dolls from around the world. The museum also has a number of exhibits on the history of dolls. From traditional to modern dolls, this is the place to visit if you or your littles one love dolls. (a short stroll from Yamashita Park and Chinatown)
- Sankei-en Garden: is a beautiful Japanese garden that’s perfect for a relaxing day out to escape the urban bustle and hustle. The garden is home to a variety of plants and flowers in a meticulously landscaped gardens, serene ponds, as well as several traditional Japanese buildings. The garden is especially stunning during the cherry blossom season in spring (end of March or start of April) and during autumn (October) when the leaves change colour.
- Yokohama Museum of Art: is a large museum with a collection of Japanese and Western art. The museum is also home to a number of special exhibitions throughout the year. Located a quick stroll away from the Landmark Tower (and MARK IS Shopping Centre).
- Relax at Yokohama Manyo Onsen: Experience traditional Japanese hot spring in the heart of Minatomirai. A perfect way to unwind and to enjoy a slice of authentic Japanese culture even if only for a few hours!

- Yokohama Bay Quarter: Visit Yokohama Bay Quarter, a modern shopping complex with a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. Enjoy a cold beer at the rooftop beer garden, or grab a latte if you are craving a good coffee. A short stroll from Yokohama Station. You can also catch the Sea Bass from here.


- Yokohama Stadium: This baseball stadium is home to the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. A great place to see a baseball game if you are into it, and it’s also a popular spot for concerts and other events.
- Nogecho (Noge): Soak in the atmosphere of this historic and nostalgic entertainment area. You’ll find loads of bars, izakayas and small eateries. Noge comes to life as the sun sets down. If you love bar hopping then Nogecho is a must visit destination!

- Motomachi Shopping Street: A stylish and trendy shopping street with European looks and charm. Close to other attraction in the area, like Chinatown and Yamashita Park. Worth a visit even if just for window-shopping. You can also check out Motomachinaka Street, which runs parallel to Motomachi St, for some cheaper alternatives and great places to eat.

- Hara Model Railway Museum: Young and old Mini train enthusiasts will be mesmerised by miniature landscapes and meticulously crafted model trains chugging through realistic cityscapes and countryside scenes. Located just a short walk from Yokohama station (about 5 mins), there are roughly 1,500 train cars on display. Entrance fees do apply for both kids and adults, so check their official website.

Things to Do in Yokohama with Kids
There are lots of family-friendly activities to do in Yokohama! I will highlight a few here as many of the things i have written above are also perfectly suitable for kids too.
- Yokohama Cosmo World: Located in the Minato Mirai 21 area, Yokohama Cosmo World is an amusement park that offers a variety of rides and attractions suitable for all ages. The park’s centerpiece is the iconic Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel, which provides fantastic views of the city. There are also roller coasters, merry-go-rounds, and interactive games to enjoy.


- Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise: Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is a marine-themed amusement park and aquarium complex located on a small island. It features several attractions, including an aquarium with a diverse range of marine life, dolphin shows, and thrilling rides. Kids and adults alike will love exploring the underwater world and watching the entertaining animal performances. Hands down the very best attraction to visit with kids in Yokohama.



- Yokohama Air Cabin (Ropeway): Take your family on a thrilling ride on the Yokohama Air Cabin, a ropeway that provides stunning aerial views of the city.
